The Providence Marriott Downtown is going Green! The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management will officially certify the hotel at the first annual Green Hospitality Certification Awards Program on Earth Day, April 22, 2008 at the Rhode Island Convention Center. The Providence Marriott Downtown has formed an Environmental Committee called the “Green Team”.  The “Green Team” has organized a series of environmentally sound programs to reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint.

The hotel’s mission is to “ensure that the Providence Marriott Downtown is working toward reducing its environmental impact and carbon footprint by minimizing waste, litter and reducing energy and water consumption”.
The Providence Marriott Downtown is 99% equipped with Energy Star certified efficient lighting which uses 70% less electricity then a normal fluorescent bulb. Unlike the traditional hot water washing systems, the hotel utilizes the Ozone system, which uses cold water and ozone to clean sheets and garments faster and more efficiently then normal hot water systems.  The Ozone system reduces fuel consumption by 10%.  The Providence Marriott is also participating in a Green Education Program for the associates, which will officially kick off on Earth Day with a special “Green” menu in the cafeteria and a presentation by the Green Team. Associates will be educated on how they can impact the environment and reduce their carbon footprints at work and at home.

The Providence Marriott Downtown is also participating in the following programs:
Recycling Program
Marriott Standard Water Efficient Sinks and Showerheads
Towel Program
Smart HVAC
Smoke-Free Environment
Recycling of Old Furniture
Ride Together Program"
