3 Steeple Street Bistro & Bar is located in the oldest existing industrial building in Providence, the second oldest in the United States to Slater Mill in Pawtucket.
Built in 1792 by Joseph Congdon, the building housed one of the first iron & steel foundries in the United States. The foundry was originally built to supply blacksmiths, however, with the onset of the Civil War it was then expanded into production of firearms, tools, horseshoes, maritime and farming implements, eventually expanding into retail; selling hardware, horse supplies, and coach equipment.
After the Civil War, the company had outgrown the space and moved one block north to the corner of Canal and Elizabeth Streets, and would stay in the family for next 6 generations.
It is a 3 story brick structure with a hipped roof, stone sills and lintels, and brick bracketing at the cornice line.

In this economy, it's hard to go out and find an affordable bite to eat. Fortunately for Providence, there's 3 Steeple Street. I was greeted last week with a smile from our server, Angela, who looked remarkably contemporary in a black jacket, jeans, and bandana, this was already a breath of fresh air. She had great knowledge of the menu and made recommendations which were followed through by the kitchen. The fact that they don't have a wine list 10 feet long and boast about their burgers, grilled cheeses and beers is enough to keep me coming back. We need more contemporary and affordable places to dine, because I'm sick of the same old upscale stuff popping up at Union Station. Screw Luxe, go to Steeple for great burgers!

Been going there since the new owners bought it. The last year hasn't been good. The food is average, and the selection isn't what it used to be.When the waitres asks how you would like your meat cooked, just say well done because that's how its going to come out of the kitchen. The quality of the help isn't wat it has been in the past.Hope they can turn around this tail spin befor its to late.
